The other day after a long day at work, I came home with nothing but a strong desire to just relax a bit. As I was driving home I could feel the comfort of my recliner and the soothing sensation of a cold drink. I just wanted peace and quiet with very little to think about.
Instead, I found my wife trying to finish dinner and a wild 22 month old boy strapped to her leg seeking attention, overly tired, yet extremely hyper. The second he saw me he screamed “Papi!” and ran over to me. Of course, any frustrations and stresses I had during the day just vanished when those little arms wrapped around my neck as I dropped my computer bag on the floor to pick him up. Still, I was tired.
Fatherhood is not for the faint of heart. It is a vocation filled with sacrifice and it requires courage, dedication, and passion. Fatherhood is something we cannot take lightly because every action, every decision has lasting consequences on the children we bring to this world.
